A court has temporarily upheld a warrant for prohibitory injuction to stop a request for a planning application for the construction of a winery below street level in Bidnija to be heard in front of the Mepa board.

There is a valid outline permit for the construction of the winery, granted by the Environment and Planning Tribunal.

Because of this permit, the Planning Directorate’s recommendation to the Mepa board is to grant a full development permit, even though certain planning policies are not being adhered to.

Residents have signed a petition demanding the withdrawal of an outline development permit issued in 2006 on the basis that it was based on wrong information by the applicant and goes against established planning policies.

The Mosta council and environmental NGOs Nature Trust and the Ramblers Association are also objecting.
