Eleonor Bezzina again came within touching distance from winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games after placing fourth in the 25m Pistol competition in Gold Coast.

Last Sunday, the target shooter had just missed out on a place on the podium when placing fourth in the 10m air pistol competition and yesterday she again finished just outside the top three placings following another remarkable display.

In the qualifying round, Bezzina produced a solid showing which saw her finish seventh from 14 shooters with a combined score of 571 points.

Singapore’s Xiu Hong Teh and India’s Annu Singh led the way with 584 points.

In the final, Bezzina stepped up her play and outscored both Teh and Singh when scoring 22 points but still was not enough to make the podium as she finished fourth.

The gold medal was won by India’s Heena Sidhu with a Games record score of 38 while Elena Galiabovitch, of Australia, was second on 35. Alia Azahari, of Malasia took bronze with 26 points.
