A fun ride will be held tomorrow to raise awareness on Lifecycle, the organisation which raises money for patients suffering from renal disease.

During the event, called the Betfair Celebrity Challenge by Lifecycle, Lifecyclists and Maltese celebrities, including Gianni's Band, Xandru Grech, Moira Delia, the crew of Sta Monica, Ray Calleja and others, will be cycling 12 kilometres.

The ride starts at 7.30 p.m. from the Betfair's current offices at The Cornerstone Complex, 16th September Square, Mosta, passes through Birkirkara, on to Betfair's new offices in Sta Venera, finishing at the Valletta Waterfront.

Betfair is a leading online betting exchange which processes five million transactions a day and more than 300 bets a second.

The public is encouraged to join the ride and snap a couple of pictures cycling with their favourite celebrity.

T-shirts will be given to participants and bikes will be provided for free. Participants can book by dropping an e-mail to betfair@lifecyclechallenge.com. The event is supported by the ministries of health and sports.

Lifecycle gets its name from the marathon bicycle rides it organises overseas every year to raise funds for its cause. It was set up in 1999 to collect money to support the considerable running costs of the state-of-the art renal facility at Mater Dei Hospital.

Not only has it provided the hospital with several brand new kidney machines, it is also helping with the financing of peritoneal dialysis machines which allow bedridden patients to perform dialysis at their home.

It also plans to provide psychological and physical support to patients to help them deal with renal disease.
