Pioneer's PDP-LX508D 50 flagship model has been named Europe's best full-HD plasma TV by the European Image and Sound Association (EISA).

A jury of editors from 50 of Europe's top consumer electronics magazines said: "Once again Pioneer has reaffirmed its mastery of plasma picture quality. The Full-HD PDP-LX508D sets a new standard for that key benchmark of home cinema video performance: Black level depth. To achieve this exceptional result, Pioneer has simultaneously improved the three fundamental display elements - panel, filter and electronics - while at the same time paying close attention to picture processing, including motion compensation subsystems. The PDP-LX508D is capable of reproducing high definition movies in their original format of 24 frames per second, exactly as they would be seen in a movie theatre."

The award came as Pioneer announced the release of a new complete range of KURO flat screen TV's from 42" to 60" including four Full-HD 1080p flat screen TVs.

The full-HD TVs, part of Pioneer's KURO line-up, will include two 60-inch models and two 50-inch models.

The company revealed that the 1080p TVs will carry the "HD ready 1080p" mark indicating a capability to display full high definition. That is the entire range of high definition sources, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p - the highest resolution currently available. The new Full-HD TVs can therefore display true high definition video with a progressive resolution of 1,920 x 1,080.

This makes them the ideal partner for high-resolution HD sources like Blu-ray as it gets the best out of high definition media; audio and video as the film-makers intended, perfectly played back at 1080p and 24Hz. That is, at exactly the same speed and using the same 24 frames per second as the film was shot, stored, mastered and screened at the cinema, the company explained.
