Maltese lyric writer Gerard James Borg has achieved yet another international success, with his song Décadence having made it through a tough selection process for the Belgian Eurovision Song Contest. Only 20 songs were selected from 450 entries.

Décadence was written for Belgo-French star Biba Binoche. She was the controversial figure on Big Brother Belgium, who later made a comeback with Mylene Farmer’s Je t’aime le melancolie. Her next single Si douce stormed the charts in Belgium, Poland, France, Netherlands, Germany, and UK, putting her in a league of her own.

Décadence” is not the typical Eurovision entry one would expect. The lyrics ooze an elegant sensuality, and the music a unique vibe. The composer is Mik Tanczos, whose last two albums were nominated for “Best Alternative Music.” Mr Tanczos, has done production and mixing work with London producer Gareth Jones (Erasure, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave,), and written for some of the best acts.

This is not a first international collaboration for Gerard James Borg. He recently collaborated on a variety of projects with a string of composers ranging from Rock, to Soul, Electro, and alternative pop. October saw a release of his song “Dynamite” by top artist Mie, in Japan, and some days ago “Crush” (borg/vella), for local artist Marilena.

The production team on Décadence is currently in discussion with a major record label who has already shown interest in the song.
