David Beckham is suing a magazine on the grounds it knowingly published false claims about his private life.

A lawsuit suit filed on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court accuses Delaware-based Bauer Publishing Company LP and its affiliates of libel, slander and intentional infliction of emotional distress for the In Touch magazine article.

The suit also names Irma Nici, who is quoted as having made the allegations about the former England football captain.

Beckham publicist Jeff Raymond said suits are being filed in other jurisdictions including Germany, where Bauer's parent corporation is located.
