A bear skin and a lynx skin were found by customs in a parcel addressed to a foreigner living in Malta.

The parcel was coming to Malta from Russia.

The Customs Department said on Friday that since the importation of such skins is prohibited as the said species are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, the skins were confiscated and the Environmental Resources Authority were informed of the find.

Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, in the past weeks, the department also intercepted several packets containing drugs.

These were passed on to the police for investigations. In some cases, people have already been arraigned in court after more drugs were found in the residences of the package receivers.
