The Emergency Response and Rescue Corps said today that its volunteers responsed to 319 calls for assistance during their patrols of the Blue Lagoon and Ramla Bay during the summer. 

The service was available on a daily basis. Besides numerous minor injuries treated on the spot, other more serious injuries required transport to the Gozo General Hospital/ Mater Dei Hospital.    The transport of casualties from Comino to Gozo was carried out by the E.R.R.C Hydro Ambulance. This is a specially equipped water rescue boat, equipped with advanced life support systems such as defibrillators, patient monitoring units, etc.

The service was possible due to sponsorship from the  from the Malta Tourist Authority to cover the running costs,  Ministry for Gozo – ECO Gozo, to buy the necessary infrastructure.   Support was also being provided by  Transport Malta, Civil Protection Department and Gaia Foundation.
