Bay Street Complex in St Julians is celebrating its ninth anniversary with a daily flow of fun events that started yesterday and will run till Sunday.

The opening activities coincided with the annual inauguration of the Christmas lights at the complex. The Alegria Academia set off the activities with performances of flamenco and contemporary dance, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree.

A mega breakdance show will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m. and Freddie Portelli will be giving a 1960s concert in the Artisan Market at 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Bay Street will host the Rockin' in Rhythm swing/jazz band from Brighton at 1.30 p.m. and the following day, Sunday, the complex will be hosting an animation programme involving a number of children's characters, like Cinderella, the Mad Hatter, Captain Hook and Peter Pan. From noon onwards they will be interacting with visitors and children.

Following the birthday cake-cutting ceremony, a "wish paper" will be distributed and everyone's wishes will be written down and attached to balloons that will be released on the count of nine.

Other anniversary events include demonstrations by the Civil Protection Department team, the Girl Guides, a BMX stunt show, a national ride in aid of the Equal Partners Found-ation by the Malta Sport Association and bikers, a falconry demonstration, an antique Maltese clock display, a chocolate sculpture exhibition, a display of old photographs, pony rides and a visit by Father Christmas.
