The tremendous GSSE success achieved by the ladies' national team has stirred an unprecedented interest in basketball among young girls all over the island, but, apparently, primarily in the south of the country.

Reports said that Hibernians have been inundated during the last two months with enquiries from parents asking to enrol their girls with the Paola club.

Hibernians have already prepared ambitious plans to re-organise their nursery and meet the expected upsurge in membership.

The basketball nursery at Hibernians, with Adidas as official kit sponsors, will be opening its doors on Saturday. Girls will be grouped in different age brackets - U-7, U-8 and U-11. U-13 players will have separate training sessions between 11 a.m. and 12.15 p.m.

Under head coach Paul Aquilina, the nursery catered for more than 50 kids last year but is now expected to double that figure. This summer, Hibs managed to rope in Carlo Farrugia, coach of the ladies team winners of the GSSE gold medal, in their staff. He will be the technical director at the nursery. Applications will be received on a first-come-first-served basis. One may obtain more details by phoning 21-677627 or send SMS to 7986-1070.
