Birkirkara’s goalkeeping crisis deepened yesterday after Manuel Bartolo was handed a one-match ban.

Bartolo, who deputised for the injured Michael Fraser in Birkirkara’s 4-1 win over Marsaxlokk last weekend, has been penalised after referee Andrè Arciola wrote in his match report that the former Msida goalkeeper refused to shake his hand prior to kick-off, a club spokesman told The Times.

Bartolo was among eight Premier League players who received a one-match ban . Valletta forward Denni, Floriana defender Owen Bugeja and Roderick Bajada, the Sliema midfielder, came in for punishment after they were sent off last weekend.

Hibs duo Aaron Xuereb and Ryan Camilleri, Edison, of Vittoriosa , and Tarxien’s Lee Galea have been banned for four yellow cards.
