An ancient mode of transport, the boats operated by barklori, has come back to the fore to help ease the strike by public transport workers.
The Malta Transport Authority has asked eight barklori to provide a service across Grand Harbour between Vittoriosa and Grand Harbour. Each boat can carry up to six passengers. The service is free of charge to passengers and is provided on demand.
Meanwhile the MTA has added a second launch on its service across Marsamxett harbour between Valletta and Sliema, with a total capacity of 260 passengers. The service was however interrupted early this afternoon when a group of some 50 transport workers boarded one of the launches and passengers got off.
