I am glad to see how enthusiastic Justin Camilleri and Ramona Micallef are about Shakespeare (An Ode To England's Greatest Bard, April 23) but I am surprised they should think they alone are aware of the great man's birthday date.

The British Culture Association has been commemorating Shakespeare's birthday every April since the early 1980s.

In fact, this year's commemoration is taking place on Tuesday, April 29 in the Music Room, St James Cavalier, and takes the form of a set of readings from Shakespeare's plays and from his sonnets on the theme of The Seven Ages Of Man. Directed by Juliet Panton, the entertainment will feature the following readers: Alan Paris, Pia Zammit, Walter and Margaret Shepherd, Paul Xuereb and Ms Panton herself. Music from Shakespeare's plays and from William Walton's music for Henry V will also be played.

Those interested in attending should e-mail the BCA's membership secretary Candida Hasselman d'Alby-Ball on dirkh@nextgen.net.mt by Sunday.
