How can Simon Borg (The Sunday Times, September 13) complain that he will not be able to visit Sliema due to the parking restrictions? Does he not know the problems we residents have in Sliema, especially in the Qui-si-sana area?

Residents have been suffering for years, due to the increase in the number of visitors and workers in this area.

Thanks to the barbecues held every evening in summer, the air is so polluted that we cannot open a window at the height of summer because of the fumes, smell and loud music. These are all visitors to Sliema, who come and leave the beach late at night, only for the swimmers next morning to come to the beach and find charcoal and the smell of urine.

I thank the local council for putting up the necessary signs but unfortunately no one bothers to read them or enforce the law.

It's high time the authorities allocated some land where barbecues can be held without disturbing residents.

The authorities are very quick to stop loud music after 11 p.m., so why are these barbecues not stopped?

This is a health hazard and we would be grateful if something is done.

Residents deserve peace and quiet, otherwise we might as well change the name to Qui-si-muore!
