The annual summer club of the Hospice Movement, Balzan, which caters for children between the ages of four and 12 whose parents are hospice patients, was once again supported by HSBC's Cares For Children Fund. The club involved a 10-session programme including outings, swimming, crafts and other entertaining activities.
"The summer club offer respites to family members providing care to hospice patients. It helps to alleviate the children from the psychological hardships emerging from the illness and offers the children quality time and interaction with other children," said Gloria Spiteri, social worker and coordinator of the summer club.
"It also enables us to establish a relationship with the children and this facilitates intervention with children needing emotional support during the illness and bereavement process," said Ms Spiteri.
