The court was asked today to order a ban on the publication of details of a court expert report about the contents of GRTU director general Vince Farrugia's mobile phone.

The contents were made public during the hearing of a case instituted by the police against former GRTU member Sandro Chetcuti, who stands accused with Mr Farrugia's attempted murder after assaulting him in the association's Valletta offices in 2010.

Lawyers Kris Busietta and Stephen Tonna Lowell complained that sections of the media "used and abused" details of what was found on Mr Farrugia's Sim card, which was part of a report drawn up by a court expert.

They had already made a similar request in a previous court sitting when Mr Chetcuti's lawyers were using them as evidence to cross-examine witnesses.

The court had turned down this request but the lawyers are now saying the contents of the court report were being used by the media for partisan reasons and that this was having a drastic effect on their client's reputation.
