UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Malta on April 21 and 22, the first visit by a UN Secretary General in 21 years.

He will have talks with President George Abela, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg. He is also expected to address Parliament.

The last UN Secretary General to visit Malta was Javier Perez de Cuellar, who opened the UN Institute on Ageing in Valletta in 1987.

Mr Ban, 64, is the eighth UN Secretary General and was appointed in January 2007, replacing Kofi Annan.

He had served as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea.
