BALZAN 2

Majdevac 70 pen., Kosoric 87

TARXIEN RAINBOWS 0

Balzan had to summon their minimum to outsmart an over-cautious Tarxien Rainbows which rarely, if ever, had a sniff of the opposing goal.

Balzan were awarded a free-kick on 26 minutes after Jacson flattened Ricardo Correa just outside the box and Steve Pisani bent his shot beyond the wall but failed to hit the target.

Balzan were piling up more pressure in search for the lead but for a desperate scoop off the line. Ivan Bozovic whipped a curling ball from the right, the Tarxien custodian flapped at the ball but the rebound dropped to Ljubomirac but his twisting shot was hooked away by the rearguard much to the relief of the goalkeeper.

Tarxien’s reaction was none too massive despite a good try by Anderson.  A menacing cross-shot by Andrija Majdevac was pushed away by the stretched Buhagiar.

However, there was more to come. Substitute Matthew Spiteri’s tackle on Majdevac inside the area was judged to be illegal by referee Glen Tonna. Majdevac picked himself up to bury the ball behind Buhagiar to put Balzan ahead.

Balzan defender Aleksandar Kosoric put the issue beyond doubt when he scored a goal out of nothing as he pounced on a corner by Alfred Effiong and whacked a low shot after turning around his marker.

Balzan's Andrija Majdevac was named BOV Player of the Match.
