Balzan - 2, Dingli - 1

Balzan Youths’s giant-killing acts in this season’s U*Bet FA Trophy continued today when they ousted Dingli Swallows 2-1 after extra-time.

The match turned out to be a balanced affair with neither side managing to break the stalemate after the normal 90 minutes of play and extra-time was needed to declare a winner.

It was Balzan who forged ahead after 95 minutes when Simon Shead was put through on goal by Clayton Caruana and rammed the ball past Dingli keeper Jeffrey Farrugia.

Dingli soon responded and managed to equalise two minutes later when Renato Conceicao headed the ball home from Dylan Zarb’s free-kick.

However, it was Balzan who had the final say as they struck the winner on 107 minutes when Shead was floored in the area by Roderick Briffa and veteran Ivan Zammit made no mistake from the spot to put his team in the quarter-finals.
