Balzan's run in this season's Europa League came to an end on Tuesday when they held Videoton, of Hungary, to a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Hibs Stadium to bow out of the competition 5-3 on aggregate.
Balzan could not have hoped for a better start as they took the lead after only three minutes.
Cadu played in Uros Ljubomirac and the Serbian striker quickly sent a low cross towards Bojan Kaljevic who stabbed the ball into the net.
But Videoton took little time to get back in contention as on 15 minutes Loic Nego fed Marko Scepovic who saw his shot blocked by Ivan Janjusevic but Kristzian Geresi was on hand to tuck the ball home.
Videoton were now growing in stature and they grabbed a second goal on 23 minutes.
Danko Lazovic’s throughball sliced open the Balzan defence and Scepovic kept his cool to slid theball past Janjusevic.
But Balzan refused to throw in the towel and on 56 minutes when Alfred Effiong levelled matters when he beat Kovacsik with a fine lob.
Videoton thought they clinched a late winner when Roland Juhasz headed the ball past Janjusevic with only 10 minutes to go.
But Balzan refused to throw in the towel and five minutes from time they were awarded a penalty when Effiong was upended by Paulo Vinicius and from the spot Kaljevic drilled the ball past Kovacsik to ensure his team bowed out of the competition with their heads held high.
