Noel Baldacchino, currently the top driver at the Marsa Racing Club, will be taking part in the fifth and sixth legs of the 2008 Mediterranean Championship, the Gran Premio Golfo, at the renowned Agnano track in Naples today.

The races will be held with the participation of other drivers from the Mediterranean region.

Matthew Brincat, chairman at the Marsa Racing Club, is accompanying Baldacchino in Agnano.

"The recent success we've just had in Laval, France, where three of our drivers at the Prix de Malte finished in the top three positions, was no mean feat, considering the stiff opposition from professional French drivers," Dr Brincat said.

"All this augurs well for another successful event, this time in Italy."

During his stay in Naples, Dr Brincat had meetings with other delegates where the setting up of a new organisation, the Mediterranean Horse Racing Union, was discussed.

Representatives from Algeria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia and Turkey were also involved in the summit for horse racing organisations.

"These kind of meetings are not just important for the Malta Racing Club to continue establishing contacts overseas, but they are also a key element in the marketing of our club and country outside Maltese shores," Dr Brincat said.
