A man accused of last June’s foiled HSBC hold-up has been remanded in custody after a court upheld an appeal filed by the Attorney General to revoke his bail.

Vincent Muscat, 48, was granted bail three weeks ago by the Magistrates’ Court against a deposit of €5,000 and personal guarantee of €15,000.

Mr Muscat was arraigned in July together with Darren Debono, 33. The two are facing 18 charges that include the attempted murder of two police officers who foiled the hold-up, attempted robbery, stealing a gun from the bank’s security officer, holding three bank officers against their will, causing damage to property and relapsing.

Both are pleading not guilty.

Mr Debono is in custody.

In the appeal, the Attorney General argued that the Magistrates’ Court did not apply the correct provision of the law when it granted Mr Muscat bail.

Mr Justice David Scicluna, sitting in the Court of Criminal Appeal, upheld the Attorney General’s request and revoked Mr Muscat’s bail and ordered his re-arrest.
