A man who allegedly took the police on a 75-minute car chase even breaking through a road block was this afternoon granted bail against a €600 deposit and a personal guarantee of €2,000.

The man, Owen Cucciardi, 29, of Qormi pleaded not guilty to charges of driving dangerously and carelessly and under the influence of alcohol, speeding, causing voluntary damage to the detriment of the police, attempting to injure a police officer and disobeying police orders.

Prosecutor Josric Mifsud told the court the police followed Mr Cucciardi when they suspected he was drunk and he gave chase.

The prosecution objected to bail arguing that the accused worked abroad.
