The Romanian charged with causing the death of a Sudanese migrant last March, was seen punching the victim by a bouncer who told the Court today that he had not seen any argument between the two.

The bouncer, Jesmond Vella, was testifying in the compilation of evidence against Antonel Dobre, 27, from Romania, who stands accused of causing serious injury to Osama Al Shazliay Saleh , also known as Sunshine, which led to his death. Mr Dobre was today granted bail against a deposit of €5,000 and a personal guarantee of €20,000. His bail conditions include signing the bail book twice a day.

Mr Vella, who works at Clique Nightclub, told the court that he was standing at the door of the club when he saw two men who looked like Romanians speaking to the Sudanese between 6.30 and 6.45 a.m.

He repeatedly confirmed it was Mr Dobre who punched Sunshine in the head, a punch which threw the Sudanese to the ground.

Mr Vella said he saw Sunshine rolling his eyes and was impressed by the amount of blood coming out of him.

Other security personnel had gathered on the spot and they called for an ambulance. Sunshine's friends also arrived and they cried as they tried to revive him.

Mr Vella said he went up to the Romanian and asked him why, and the latter said something in his language and left.

He said the two men had not been arguing.
