A 16-year-old boy was this morning granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €10,000 after he pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of another teenager in Paceville early yesterday morning.

An 18-year-old from Sliema was stabbed at 1 a.m. yesterday following a club brawl. The man had to be rescued from a mob by the police.

The 16-year-old was charged with stabbing and seriously injuring the victim and with carrying a knife illegally and without a license.

Police inspector Daniel Zammit told the court in pleas on bail that it seemed to have become fashionable to go to Paceville to fight.

But defence lawyer Edward Gatt argued that the accused found himself in the midst of a fight and had to react in self-defence. He had a clean police record.
