A decision about whether bail should be granted to two men charged with the murder of bank messenger Alphonse Ferriggi 13 years ago is expected on Friday.

James Vella, 33, of Qormi, known as Il-Frejżer, and Chris Scerri, 35, of Pietá, known as Gazzetti or Buttuni, were charged with the murder after two other men, Joseph Zammit, 57, of Floriana, known as Żeppi ir-Redgħu, and Richard Grech, 47, Iż-Żinanna said they were involved.

Mr Zammit was jailed for 31 years in 2009 for the murder while Mr Grech was jailed for life in May 2011.

Mr Vella and Mr Scerri have now been two months behind bars.

The police had previously said that the evidence against the accused included testimony by Mr Grech and Mr Zammit, who placed them at the scene, and other information, including forensic, corroborating the evidence.

Mr Ferriggi, 42, was shot dead on September 18, 2000 outside the Bank of Valletta branch in San Ġwann. He had parked his white Peugeot 306 station wagon opposite the mail box and opened the luggage booth when a dark coloured car pulled up beside him.
