A Sicilian man, Gianluca Torres, who lives in Rabat, today denied in court to having stolen two handbags and cash from guests at the Hotel Santana.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi noted that the accused had already been previously arraigned on similar charges. He had been allowed bail in order to be present for his son's birth. Yet he appeared to have committed another crime.

Mr Torres said that whenever he was guilty, he always admitted straight away, but this time he was not guilty.

The Magistrate granted him bail until sentencing on September 12 and warned him that if he committed another crime, the punishment would rise dramatically.
