A bachelor’s degree in journalism is being launched in the coming scholastic year.

The three-year full-time course will be held at MCAST, with applications opening at the end of July and again at the end of September.

The course is being organised in collaboration with the Tumas Fenech Foundation and The Institute of Journalists.

Applicants must be in possession of two A-levels and three Intermediates including a pass in either Maltese or English, or an advanced diploma at level six.

The first year is expected to host a class of some 15 students. Topics covered will include print, broadcast, and investigative journalism. Practical hands on experience at PBS and other media organisations will also be provided.

Addressing a press conference launching the course, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said he hoped it would help establish journalism as more of a profession.
