In what could be termed a postscript to the just concluded Valletta International Baroque Festival, the next evening organised by the German-Maltese Circle Classical Music Group will feature a screening of a video recording of Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor.

This will take place at Messina Palace, 141, St Christopher Street, Valletta, on Wednesday, an hour earlier than usual, from 5.30 to around 8pm.

The Mass in B Minor, written over three decades and completed only in 1749, a year before Bach’s death, is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music.

It is a magnificent setting of the Catholic Mass by a Lutheran composer, who based it on a Mass he had written in 1733 for the Elector of Saxony, who was later elected King Augustus III of Poland.

An introduction in English will be given by Laurence Grech.

Entrance is free.
