People injured in the accident that happened close to a fruit and vegetable vendor’s van in Ħal Far yesterday evening included a five-month old baby boy and a boy aged one year and a half, the police said in an update.

They said this morning that eight people were injured in the accident, three of them grievously. The accident happened at about 6.45pm.

The car involved, a Peugeot 205, was driven by a 28-year-old Eritrean man, resident at Ħal Far open centre, which is close to where the incident happened. He was given a breathalyser test and is being investigated by the police.

The police said those who suffered grievous injuries were a 68-year-old man from Tarxien, a 40-year-old man from Attard and a Somali man, 30, resident in Ħamrun.

Those who suffered slight injuries were the baby and the boy, a 27-year-old Somali woman who lives at Ħal-Far, a 32-year-old Nigerian woman who lives at Ħal-Far and a 60-year-old man from Zurrieq.

An inquiry is being held.

A large number of people, mostly from the open centre, assembled at the scene of the accident.
