A 10-month-old baby is undergoing hospital checks after being hit by a truck's side mirror in Sliema this morning.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the Italian mother carrying the baby emerged from a house onto the pavement in narrow St Vincent Street.

The baby's head was hit by the protruding mirror of the Isuzu truck, which was being driven uphill with a front wheel and part of the rear left double wheel on the pavement. The truck was being driven by a 37-year-old man who lives in St Paul's Bay.

The road was temporarily closed.

The baby's injuries are not believed to be serious.
