A baby boy had an incredible escape after falling from an eighth-floor Paris apartment, bouncing of an awning and into the arms of a passer by, police said today.

Officers said the accident happened yesterday after the parents went out for a stroll and left the 18-month-old with his three-year-old sister in the family apartment in eastern Paris.

They have detained the parents for questioning.

Police said the little boy somehow had access to an open window and fell out. He hit the awning of a ground-floor restaurant then was caught by the bystander.

He was taken to hospital but found to be uninjured.
