The Broadcasting Authority said today that although PBS had failed to report comments on the citizenship scheme made by Finance Minister Edward Scicluna during a meeting with MEPs, no imbalance was created since a statement by the DOI on the same subject was also not reported.

The PN and PBS this afternoon gave contrasting versions of the decision.

The PN said the Broadcasting Authority had found PBS at fault for not reporting comments about the citizenship scheme made by Finance Minister Edward Scicluna at a meeting with MEPs.

The BA was asked to take a decision after a complaint by the PN. TVM had claimed the comments had no news value.

The PN said it was appealing to PBS not to allow itself to be used as a cover-up for the government.

In a contrasting statement, PBS said the Authority had not upheld the PN complaint which was about an alleged imbalance. The BA had concluded that no imbalance had been created and therefore it did not order a remedy.

PBS said its newsroom remained committed to present an impartial service.
