The Broadcasting Authority has charged  Net TV for broadcasting footage of PN leader Lawrence Gonzi and general secretary Paul Borg Olivier meeting local council election candidates in various localities today.

Those images went against a Broadcasting Authority directive, CEO Pierre Cassar wrote in a charge letter to media manager Louiselle Vassallo.

He pointed out that various warnings were given to Ms Vassallo, Dr Borg Olivier and news editor Nathaniel Attard, but the warnings were ignored.

The Authority will decide whether or not the station is guilty sometime next week.

Mr Cassar told timesofmalta.com that a number of other warnings were issued to Net and One throughout the past few days for minor infringements, but this was the only case of a formal charge being issued after warnings were ignored.

The BA had last month issued instructions on what is permissible to air during the day of reflection and voting day.

Informed sources said the BA this morning also warned One over footage of comments by Labour leader Joseph Muscat when he voted in Burmarrad. The footage was not re-transmitted.
