Year 5 students at Patri Tumas Xerri School, Baħrija, recently presented the play The International Day of Peace, based on the picture story book by Steve Diamond and Robert Alan.

The play involved two gangs of children, one playing war and the other playing tag, that did not want to play together because each thought they were better than the other. However, they soon realised that they would have more fun if they united and played a game acceptable to both, such as basketball, which involved all members of the gangs.

After the game, they start a conversation and discuss war, and agreed that a world without war and arms would be a much better place to live in. So they decide to do their part and try to initiate peace, starting with their immediate family and going on to write in the media and to the authorities.
