The AX Foundation will be donating €15,600 to various charities, its chairman, Josephine Xuereb announced. The money was collected with the help of employees of AX Group of Companies who made donations to the foundation instead of buying Christmas presents for their directors and managers last year.

The sum collected by employees was then doubled by company chairman Angelo Xuereb.

Ms Xuereb said she was “pleasantly surprised” when the sum of €15,600 was announced and assured all employees that the money will be used to alleviate the sufferings of various people in need, both locally and abroad, “as well as to assist various local institutes and associations who are continuously appealing for assistance in one project or another.”

The AX Foundation was set up with financial and material assistance by AX Holdings just over three years ago and took over the role of the Charitable Welfare Society which for the previous 15 years had raised considerable sums of money to be used by various organisations for their deserving projects.

The main objectives of the AX Foundation includes assisting financially or otherwise members of the Maltese community who are suffering social, physical or mental hardship and to provide assistance to Maltese citizens in order to enable them to improve their talents and professional standards either locally or abroad.

Some of the beneficiaries during the past year were the survivors of the Peru and Haiti natural disasters through the Missionary Society of St. Paul, Caritas, the Salesians and the Mission Fund; The Gesu’ fil-Proxxmu Foundation which is doing sterling work in Brazil as well as Africa; Puttinu Cares, the Arka Foundation; needy families from various parts of the island as well as AX employees who through serious injuries or sickness were going through a difficult period in their life.
