A Magistrate has condemned a Ghanaian migrant to six months imprisonment for assaulting and threatening a worker engaged by the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers, and ordered his deportation once he serves his term.

Aziz Issah was convicted of assaulting and threatening Ann Marie Pisani, Sam Mohamed and their minor daughter on February 3 in Marsa.

He was originally arraigned on March 7 but did not turn up and was fined €250 for contempt.

In delivering sentence, Magistrate Joe Mifsud praised the AWAS workers and condemned all those who did not appreciate their work for those in need.

“It is not right that instead of being thanked, such people end up being threatened and insulted,” he said.
