The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) yesterday launched the 26th edition of the annual press awards, known as the Malta Journalism Awards.

“The Institute of Maltese Journalists is organising the Malta Journalism Awards to celebrate journalists’ hard work. In its efforts to broaden the public appreciation in different journalistic areas, the institute is this year launching a new category in collaboration with KNPD, which is the National Commission for Persons with Disability. The prize will acknowledge the best ethical and positive reporting in the disability sector,” IĠM chairman Karl Wright said.

Journalists can nominate themselves but editors and heads of news may also select and submit entries that they consider to be the best work of any individual journalist, irrespective of whether that journalist belongs to the same newsroom or not. Submissions may also be forwarded by organisations, corporations and bodies. In both cases, consent from the journalist in question must be sought.

The 16 categories range from print journalism to sports photography.

Submissions will be received at the offices of the Institute of Maltese Journalists, 280/3 Republic Street, Valletta, on February 10. The finalists will be announced on April 4 and the winners on May 7.
