Qormi 2, Tarxien 1

Qormi came back from a goal down to see off Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 in a balanced encounter at the Tedesco Stadium to keep alive their hopes of a place in the Championship Pool.

It was Tarxien who took control of the match in the first half with Brazilian midfielder Andrezinho coming close to give his team the opener midway through the first half when his low drive came off the upright.

However, the Tarxien midfielder made no mistake late in the first half when stepped up to take a central free-kick and his curling drive flew past Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Qormi came more into the picture on the restart and they managed to draw level on 55 minutes when Joseph Chetcuti released Alfred Effiong inside the area and the Nigerian hit a low shot that flew past David Cassar, the Tarxien goalkeeper.

The match remained evenly balanced but it was Qormi who had the final say as in the 90th minute substitute Moises Avila-Perez won possession in midfield and sent an audacious lob that flew past the out-of-posititoned Cassar to the delight of the Qormi fans.

Tarxien midfielder Andrezinho was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
