The government today launched the National Aviation Policy for public consultation.

The policy, which is aimed at guiding the sector to continue growing, covers 2014 to 2020.

Launching the policy, Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said the government had identified the aviation sector as one of a number of specialised sectors through which the country’s economic and social development could continue to grow. It was a sector that was vital to other sectors because of the country’s insularity.

The policy was drawn up by a consultative committee led by Alfred Quintano and which includes a number of experts in the sector. An authority for Civil Aviation will now be set up.

The policy document will be available on the ministry’s website as from Monday. Comments and suggestions may be sent to aviationpolicy@gov.mt .
