An autopsy on the Cospicua man who was found dead in Lion Street in his home town early on Monday morning was inconclusive.

The police said that the autopsy revealed a "pulmonary oedema" (swelling and/or fluid accumulation in the lungs) but further toxicological tests will be carried out before the cause of the death can be established, the police added.

They are not ruling anything out at this stage.

The autopsy was held at Mater Dei Hospital mortuary yesterday morning.

David Zerafa, 36, who used to live on his own, was found lying in the street by a passer-by at about 4 a.m. A doctor certified he was dead.

Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona has opened an inquiry into the death.
