All 20 lifts inspected so far this year were found to have shortcomings, Consumer Affairs Minister Helena Dalli said in Parliament today.

She was answering a question by Paula Mifsud Bonnici (PN).

Dr Dalli said two of the lifts were shut down because they constituted serious risks to users. Another was inoperable because of missing parts and another was awaiting certification.

The minister said the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority was mulling the thought of naming operators who were supplying the market with non-conforming lifts.

The media, she said, would be engaged to help get the message across that all lifts in Malta should be certified and registered according to the law.
