Australian winemakers have come up with a promotional campaign that is targeting their home market in an effort to boost flagging domestic demand for their Australian wines.

Hundreds of Australian winemakers have thrown their weight behind next month’s first national celebration of Australian wine. The All For One Wine campaign urges Australian winemakers, grape growers, retailers, restaurateurs, wine writers and consumers to drink only Australian wine from January 1 until Australia Day on January 26.

The campaign aims to make Aussies proud of their Australian wine and urges them to produce more wines suited to Australia’s summer lifestyle of barbecues, backyard cricket and trips to the beach. The winemaker from McLaren Vale in South Australia, who launched the All For One Wine campaign, said he also wanted this campaign to help address the 20 per cent increase of imported wines into Australia that took place in the past six months.

The campaign has clearly struck a chord, with almost 1,000 people – including more than 220 winemakers – pledging their support for the campaign so far.

Now you might think that this story seems a little familiar and you wouldn’t have to look too far from home to find it! So here’s a last minute thought for the New Year – how about we do something similar whereby the Maltese winemakers, grape growers, retailers, restaurateurs, wine writers and consumers all get together to promote and drink Maltese wine from January 1 until…?

Now that would be a Happy New Year!
