I should expect that the new Labour Party leader, Joseph Muscat, would take immediate steps to see that, without any further delay, opposition agreement is forthcoming for the appointment of a new Auditor General, which appointment was due last July. In so doing he would be truly giving a clear and positive sign that he is ready to give his support to ensure that, when a two-thirds majority is required, the provisions of the Constitution should not lead, well nigh inexorably, to a constitutional impasse (not to say charade) as in this case.
