Waste recovery firm Green Pak has invited the Attard local council to the PRO Europe congress in Brussels next month after the locality achieved the country’s best recycling performance.

Attard residents recycle an average of 780 grammes per capita per week, translating into 2,500 kgs of glass, 4,900 kgs of paper, 3,400 kgs of plastic and 1,000 kgs of metal handed in for recycling a week.

Participants of the “Green Dot 2010: Green Economy in Action” congress today and tomorrow, will share their experiences with delegates from more than 30 countries on improving waste recovery and resource management further.

The community and industry work together to contribute significantly to a shift towards a green economy across Europe. The conference will tackle these themes from policy and business perspectives; the guiding principles of this year’s congress are interactivity, high-level content and a forward-looking vision.

GreenPak is a member of PRO Europe, founded in 1995 as an umbrella organisation for the packaging waste recovery schemes using the Green Dot trademark. PRO Europe offers its members a common policy platform and represents the interest of all recovery and recycling organisations.

At the congress, Attard councillors will be able to meet PRO Europe president Henri Meirsonne, general manager Joachim Quonden as well as joint secretary generals Pascal Gislais and Ursula Denison.
