At least one person was killed and 20 others injured in Turkey's southeastern town of Nusaybin after a fire broke out at a supermarket and spread to adjoining buildings, private Dogan news agency reported.
The incident occurred on the day Turks went to the polls for a snap election that was overshadowed by a recent surge of violence in southeast Turkey. The fire was caused by an electric generator explosion and appeared to be unrelated with the elections, daily Sabah reported on its website.
Firefighters raced to rescue people trapped in the upper stories of the building. Those who suffered from smoke inhalation were rushed to local hospitals, Dogan news agency reported.
Nusaybin police department dispatched four water cannons to douse the flames. An investigation was launched into the incident.
