More than 11,000 contacts were made with Maltese embassies abroad in the first seven months of the year, Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said.

He said that 20,000 copies of a travel manual printed by the ministry had been distributed in a few weeks and 1,500 people a day were visiting the ministry's website.

The minister said that an average of 60 contacts were made with embassies daily and the figure was rising gradually.

Dr Borg said that at a time when other countries were considering reducing their representaition abroad, Malta was increasing its embassies.
