Malta champions Matthew Asciak and Elaine Genovese recently had a one-week training camp in Barcelona. Training was held at the Elitenis Academy, base of some of Spain's top tennis players.

The Elitenis Academy focuses on those players preparing for their next ATP or WTA tournaments.

Asciak and Genovese also found time to take part in a tournament organised by the Spanish federation which featured the participation of some of the country's most promising players.

Asciak, backed by his Lufthansa sponsorship, won the singles event after beating top seed Christian Serrano 6-4 6-3 in the final. Genovese also had a good run in reaching the semi-finals where she lost to Romina Sceat, a former top 800 WTA player.

The two Maltese players will now travel to Scotland to take part in two ITF world ranking junior tournaments. In Edinburgh, they will be joined by Clayton Zammit, another upcoming local player.
