Police hunting the art thieves who stole paintings worth tens of millions from a Rotterdam museum say they are following up several tips from the public.

A spokeswoman said a nationally televised appeal for witnesses to the theft of seven pictures from the Kunsthal gallery has had a good response.

Works by celebrated artists including Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse were taken.

Detectives are also studying video surveillance images of the night of the break-in.

Police focused their attention on a rear door that thieves most likely used to get into the gallery before snatching the paintings.
