Italian police released video today showing closed-circuit TV footage of thieves carrying off millions of dollars of artwork from a museum in Verona.

12 suspects have been arrested for stealing more than 16 million dollars in artwork.

The paintings, including works by Tintoretto and Rubens, were taken by armed robbers shortly before the Castelvecchio museum in Verona closed November 19, 2015.

Theories over the culprits ranged from local delinquents to Islamic State.

They tied up the museum cashier and forced an armed guard to hand over keys to his car, which they used to get away.

Italian media reported that nine of the suspects were Moldovans and three were Italians.
